What is the reference for b.c.?

I wonder how people identified dates as 1500 b.c., etc. when no one knew Jesus' exact birth?

What is the reference for b.c.?
Jesus' "exact birth" was determined by Catholics around what we call 1000 A.D. (Now, we use C.E., meaning common era, and B.C.E, for before common era.) Most people around 1000 AD were on completely different calendar times, based on their own religion (as in Judiasm) and in other religions and cultures based on the moon and the constellations. The use of the Catholic's BC and AD became the default eventually, and that's just the way it is. And as far as their calculations go, no one could REALLY figure out when Jesus was born. It's really actually irrelevant.

If you are asking about people BEFORE Jesus, it still doesn't matter. They obviously didn't use "BC" or anything else because, as you said, Jesus had not been born yet. And as I said about people even AFTER that, the calendar was never based on Jesus, but usually on harvests and constellation movements. Sometimes it was counted based on the rulers that existed. That's how many people kept track of time as well.
Reply:Arghhhh! They counted from some other significant point in their past.
Reply:before christ...

cause thats why there are historian... and man passes down information....
